Project Officer - Libraries After Dark
Join Hume Libraries in an exciting initiative! We are running an innovative project called ‘Libraries After Dark' from early November 2017 to mid April 2019. The Libraries After Dark project is a joint initiative of the local government areas of Darebin, Moreland, Whittlesea and Hume. It seeks to interrupt the normalisation of problem gambling by offering alternative recreational space to at-risk gamblers.
We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic and energetic person to join the library team at The Age Library in Broadmeadows for the duration of the project, for one afternoon and evening per week. Your key tasks will be to prepare, deliver and evaluate events and activities at The Age Library, Broadmeadows on Thursday nights as part of the Libraries After Dark program. As part of this, you will be expected to:
- In conjunction with the librarian responsible for the program, identify, source, book and liaise with speakers, performers, suppliers and community groups
- Assist in provisioning the program with supplies as appropriate
- Contribute to the fostering and positive maintenance of key relationships and partnerships
- Prepare and set up spaces, and set-down at the end of the shift
- Facilitate or host each evening's events and activities
- Engage with patrons and encourage participation
- Prepare and monitor refreshments
You will need to be well organized, have excellent communication skills, enjoy working in a small team and ensure that you are able to meaningfully evaluate each evening and collect relevant statistical data. Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and broad experience with board, console and internet-based games are an advantage.
